Edinburgh Jazz Festival

I went to the Edinburgh Jazz Festival Mardi Gras and Carnival this weekend. Both are free outdoor events. The Mardi Gras takes place in the Grassmarket on the Saturday, while the Carnival the following day, winds its way along Princes Street and into Princes Street Gardens for a concert at the Ross Band Stand. There is also plenty going on in the Gardens too, and its a great event for photographers. I first went last year and really enjoyed it.

The Mardi Gras was a bit of a washout, but the atmosphere was great, and people were enjoying themselves despite the weather. It also gave me a chance to try out the waterproof sleeve I’d bought for my camera, to replace the fantastic Morrison’s carrier bags I’d used previously. It worked well enough but a wet plastic bag is a wet plastic bag, and it was a bit of a drag.

By the time Sunday arrived the rain had cleared, and it was a glorious summer day.
